About the College

Founded in 1924 by the Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Apostles at Saint Maryโ€™s Convent School, OLA, an all-female Catholic institution located in Cape Coast, Ghana. The college was established under the guidance of Rev. Mother Acquiline Tobin, an Irish missionary of the OLA Sisters, who foresaw the need to train Ghanaian female teachers to assist the expatriate OLA nuns in their convent elementary schools along the coastal towns of the then Gold Coast.

By 1933, the student population had grown beyond the capacity of the available facility, necessitating a new location. The Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Apostles acquired a 93-acre land outside the city of Cape Coast, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, to accommodate the increasing student numbers.

In September 2005, OLA College of Education was accredited by the National Accreditation Board of the Ministry of Education as an affiliate college of the University of Cape Coast to run the Teachers Diploma in Basic Education (DBE). The college has established itself among the top colleges of education in the country and is the only all-female college offering Science and Mathematics programmes.

Currently, OLA College offers 4-year Bachelor of Education programmes in Early Childhood (Early Grade) Education, Primary Education, and Junior High School (JHS) Education.
