Foso College of Education (FOSCO) is one of the 46 Public
Colleges of Education in Ghana with the mandate of training
teachers for the basic schools.
It was established by the first republican administration of Dr.
Kwame Nkrumah on the 15th of November, 1965 with R. R. Essah as
the Principal. The current Principlal of the college is Dr.
Anthony Baabereyir.
In it's fifty-six years of existence, FOSCO (as the College is affectionately called) has run all the Teacher Education programmes that have been instituted by the Government of Ghana.
Under the tutelage of the university of Cape Coast, the College has been running 4-year Bachelor of Education Programmes since 2018, for which certificate of accreditation was obtained in September, 2018. Currently, the College is affiliated to University of Cape Coast.
The philosophy of the College is a reflection of its mission, vision, and core values. It focuses on preparing students to become basic school teachers who have the requisite knowledge, skills and attitude to prepare learners to become functional global citizen.
The College was established as a Teacher Training Institution to train teachers for the Basic Schools in Ghana.
The College aspires to become a Centre of excellence for training quality teachers whose orientation is holistic and consistent with the College's motto - Character, Wisdom and Knowledge.
